EDUCATION RESOURCES

Whether you are completing your pre-licensing, post-licensing, or completing continuing education, there are plenty of options available to meet your requirements. Explore some resources below. Got a question? Contact our Membership Coordinator.

Understanding Licensing Stages

Pre-Licensing: the courses needed before taking The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Real Estate Board examination. The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) offers lists of pre-approved courses for both a salesperson and a broker.

Post-Licensing: the courses needed within a year after receiving your real estate license. According to DPOR, a salesperson license requires 30 hours and nine courses.

Continuing Education: the courses needed for maintaining an active license. A typical salesperson licensee has three years to complete a list of topics/hours. To look up what topics you have outstanding, visit DPOR.Virginia.gov and use their License Lookup tool.

Post-licensing and continuing education only

  1. Monthly Membership Meetings: Each year, the Lynchburg Association of REALTORS® (LAR) brings in speakers across the nation as a chance to offer continuing education hours at no additional cost to members. For updates regarding topics and hours, be sure to check the Calendar in Connect Dashboard portal (for members only). Non-member REALTORS® can also sign up for courses at an additional cost of $15 per meeting.

  2. The CE Shop: If LAR does not offer the course you need, you can check out The CE Shop. This third-party vendor offers individual courses for purchase which are completed online. The CE Shop also offers post-licensing course packages.

  3. Contact Neighboring Associations: If you prefer to take a course in an in-person setting, and we do not offer what you need, we suggest contacting neighboring associations in Virginia to see their education offerings.
